One Good Man

I have a classmate, let's say his name is Kevin. In the class, he is smart and sharp and every lecturer loves him. Also, he is 18 year-old like any body else except me. What's so interesting about him? Let's start the story...

Both of us stay in the mainland and we take ferry boat to the island to college, sometimes we would bump into each other early in the morning or go back home together after classes. One morning, like usual, I was listening to my iPod; after the ferry arrived the island, I got out and walked along the pathway towards the bus station. Half way through, I saw Kevin from the back with his hand holding another guy's hand. Looked like he was leading the way for the guy towards the bus station, and yes, that fella is blind.

Despite he was getting late to the college, still, he was so guardful and attentive while leading the way, he whispered to the blindman when there's a stumbling block. I was impressed! That's the first time I saw one of my friends being so helpful! I walked passing him and greet, had a quick glance before catching the bus, he was watching every foot step, making sure that the blindman had the safe steps. Sitting inside the bus, from the inside I noticed Kevin was asking him "Where do you want to go?". After the blindman replied, Kevin led him hop on to the bus and talked to the bus driver, made sure that he got to his destination.

That was so thoughtful! How many teenagers or youngsters nowadays would do such a thing to the disables? So few of us would do that! Even I don't have the courage to do so?! There is another story though. Again it's a morning, while we were queueing for the bus; one old-looked-sick man queued in front of Kevin. The old man couldn't get on the bus because of the height of the bus platform, he seemed helpless a little and the queue was getting longer. Kevin saw what's happening, just a few second after, without a thought, Kevin walked in front and assisted the old man. Eventually, he carried him up into the bus!

After getting up, the old man turned back to Kevin, tapped on Kevin's shoulder and said "thank you". Then Kevin gave him a quick nod and smile. From that moment, I felt so proud being Kevin's friend; and I wish I could be like him too! In fact, it's not hard to help people at all, why is it so difficult to do so? You would feel needed help sometimes when you have difficulties, right? Kevin is a good role model in this society, he doesn't do it for granted, he did it because he knows that others needed his help!
