Waseda Brass Band Japan

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary concert in Penang for The Waseda Brass Band Japan, and the title for the concert was "The Glorious Brass Music"! J found out the advertisement few days before the concert, first she told me the concert would held in KOMTAR auditorium. I asked, "Are you sure?".

According to the authority, this was a charity concert and the ticket was only RM10 per person! Normally we hardly find orchestra performances in Penang, even though it would be more than RM10! This was considered an International performance since they are from Japan! Hence, me and J decided to go for the concert which would be our first time watching the brass band!

Waseda Brass Band is established in year 2000, it was from the Symphony Orchestra of the Waseda University Japan. All of the members are from very different division of studies like; major in physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, architecture, law, political science, economics, etc. The average age of the members is over 50! They are the amateur musicians, they play music with their interest and passion.

The band is consisted with trumpets, trombones, tubas, horns, euphonium and percussion. On the afternoon yesterday, they played for two and a half hours. Songs included, Salut d'Amour, Sabre Dance, Flight of the Bumblebee, My Favourite Thing, most of John Williams' screen music (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jaws, E.T. and Jurassic Park).

All these music are my favourite! I had goosebumps all the way from the beginning to the end! The compositions of the trumpets and trombones to the horn and the tuba, adding up with some percussion instruments; I could say.....it was AWESOME! The best part was the flute, the conductor-Nakajima Akihiro played flute solo with trumpets as the background music for the song-Salut d'Amour. Owww....then I fell in love with flute! It is a very nice wind instrument for solo! Sounds so soft and sweet! Love it!

Eventually, I love symphony orchestra or even just a quartet, I would love to be one of them!
